Update on the looming ASSU Strike
The Federal Government, through the Yayale Ahmed Renegotiation Committee, has convened meetings for Monday, November 24, 2025, and Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in a bid to avert the looming strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. Depending on the outcome on the meeting, the ASSU NEC will decide whether or not to embark on a strike.
The Rising Rate Of Insecurity In Nigeria
Nigeria is facing major security crisis, as gunmen abducted over 300 people, including 303 students and 12 teachers, from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and secondary school in Papiri, Niger State. The raid occurred in the early hours of Friday, November 21, when armed attackers entered the school campus, firing shots and overwhelming the security personnel. The attack left one security guard injured and sparked nationwide outrage over the safety of schools in northern Nigeria. Despite optimism from security agencies and state governments about the ongoing rescue efforts, the whereabout of the abducted pupils remain unknown.
Nnamdi Kanu Gets Life Imprisonment
On 20 November, 2025 , the Federal High court in Abuja sentenced Nnamdi Kanu leader of the indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB), to life imprisonment on multiple terrorism related charges. Kanu was found guilty of incitement, enforcing “ sit at home” orders, and using an unlicensed radio transmitter, among others counts. IPOB has rejected the verdict, calling his activism “not a crime”, and south eastern leaders are renewing calls for a political solution.
