DIPLOMAT OF THE WEEK: GEOFFREY ONYEAMA

 
      Geoffrey Onyeama, born on February 2, 1957 in Enugu, Nigeria. He studied at Columbia University, London school of economics and the university of Pennsylvania specializing in law. 
Onyeama stands out as one of the most influential Nigerian diplomats of the 21st century. His career reflects a blend of international expertise, strategic leadership and a deep commitment to strengthening Nigeria's global presence. 
        His diplomatic career gained prominence at the World Intellectual property organization WIPO in Geneva where he worked for nearly 3 decades during which he rose from the position of legal officer to Deputy Director General, overseeing important reforms in intellectual property administration and fostering cooperation among member states. 
        Geoffrey Onyeama's national visibility reached it's height when he was appointed Nigeria's minister of foreign affairs in 2015, a position he held until 2023 under late president Muhammadu Buhari.
His tenure was defined by several key priorities. He participated in strengthening Nigeria's role in Ecowas Diplomacy. Other major focus includes citizen diplomacy economic diplomacy and many others. 

        Today, Onyeama remains one of Nigeria's most respected diplomats. His career has earned a reputation for being calm, coordinated and highly strategic. Jod diplomatic style reflects patience and tact, helping Nigeria navigate complex international issues with clarity and confidence.
