Lagos Celebrates Fela Kuti

Lagos Celebrates Fela Kuti
Lagos is celebrating one of Africa’s greatest music icons as a new exhibition dedicated to Fela Anikulapo Kuti opens to the public, showcasing the life, influence, and revolutionary spirit of the Acrobat pioneer. The showcase marked the African debut of the exhibition, it was previously hosted in Paris but now expanded significantly for Nigeria audiences.
Lagos version is much bigger and about three times larger. It has over 440 items, including Fela’s pictures, clothes, videos, and artworks. There are live music performances from today’s Nigerians artists who were inspired by his activism and sound, creating a vibrant atmosphere that mirrors the energy Fela was known for.
The organizer said they brought the exhibition to Lagos because Fela’s message is still important today. He spoke strongly against corruption, bad government, and injustice, and many Nigerians still connect with his words.
Fela may have died years ago, his voice still echoes through music, culture and politics. This exhibition is a way to honour and remind people of how power his voice was.
