Justice James of the Federal High Court in Abuja has nullified the N800 billion budget passed by a faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly and signed into law by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.Fubara had on Thursday, December 14, 2023, signed the N800 billion 2024 budget into law, barely 24 hours after it was presented to a four-man House of Assembly for approval.

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Kunle Oluomo, has been impeached.Oluomo was impeached during Tuesday’s plenary session.Out of the 26 members, 18 voted in favour of Oluomo’s impeachment, citing charges of embezzlement, haughtiness, and other offenses.Following the impeachment, the Assembly promptly elected Oludaisi Elemide as the new Speaker.

The naira on Tuesday exhibited resilience in the official foreign exchange market, closing 5.1% stronger against the US dollar at N878.61/$1 in the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM).This marked a significant improvement compared to the previous day’s rate of N925.34/$1.However, the naira faced challenges against other major currencies, with a decrease of N34.60 against the Pound Sterling, closing at N1,163.87/£1, and a loss of N26.36 against the Euro, settling at N996.05/€1.
