SRC Sitting Report
After the notification, the Students Representative Council held its sitting at classroom C, Admin Extension building . The sitting began around 11:00 am on the 30th January, 2026 with the opening prayer , followed by the reading of the last minute by the Deputy Speaker, Honorable Michael, as the Clerk seems to be unavailable at the moment. The minute was then adopted by the honorables with the motion moved by Honorable Nifemi and seconded by Honorable Favor.
Swearing in of the newly elected *honorable Esther* from part 1 as well as in-house election to elect a new chief whip. Honorable Solomon went unopposed and he was elected as the chief whip. Following that was the ratification of judicial council which was later put on hold due to certain reasons.
In the middle of ratification,the Speaker ordered all the Executives to step out of the room in order to bring in the already requested correspondence, which they've failed to do. In the light of this, several deliberation on the punishment to be given to them and aside from other fines to be paid by some members of the Executives and some of the SRC members, the house conversed on the kind of punishment,some supported collective punishment as the executives work as a team, other suggested that each office should be sanctioned separately. Some Gallarians pointed out that queries given to the Executives will definitely keep them on their toes. Although Honorable Damilare and other honorables supported that each executive should submit a *handwritten letter of over 1000 words and also pay a fine of 500 naira* ,but over 10 other honorables supported that the Executives should be queried and this is the verdict. To ensure deep understand of the constitution concerning "Queries", Honorable Yackson read the part of the constitution which mentioned that Impeachment will be the last resort to several queries.
Back to the ratification of the judicial council . Chiamaka , Joy , Khadija and Emmanuel are being questioned by the Honorables as well as some Gallarians, the house proceeded to conduct in-house election,with Joy Okeke with the highest vote of 6 out of 13 votes. She was sworn in by the Speaker and the whole sitting congratulated her.
Ratification of budget was next on the list of agenda. It started with quick questioning of the Financial Secretary along side budget defending by all executives. Several corrections were pointed out and approval was postponed till the mistakes are corrected. Part 1 honorable members raised concern on the delay in the Freshers package,the executive replied that they will receive it as early as second semester. The issue of Sponsorship and Revenue generation was addressed and suggestions were made to achieve that.
In the Executive report,the president was questioned regarding the registration of the association as well as the already mentioned Change of Departmental Logo, he replied that the General Secretary has been working on it for couple of weeks and she seems to have made progress. Update on the Department website, registration and Logo will be known soon. Other than this, management of the Secretariat was mentioned and clarification on stakeholders was made. Only the Leader s of SRC, Executive, Judiciary and DSNA are allowed on the other side of the tables, other this set of people, payment of minimized fine will be imposed on anyone who crossed the table side.
The PRO was heavily questioned regarding his low performance in his duties. Rating his duties so far, negligence has been highly shown. He promised to make changes and the generality of the sitting hope to see the changes soon. The Deputy Speaker, however, questioned the executives on how they ignore messages sent to their joint administrative group. They defended themselves.
Other business were discussed which includes the things needed for the registration of the association. The sitting was adjourned after the closing prayer.
