• OAU WELCOMES FRESH STUDENTS, REAFFIRMS STANCE AGAINST CULTISM:
The matriculation was held on Thursday, 15th January 2026, at the University’s newly renovated Amphitheatre. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, advised the new intakes to face their studies with steadfast commitment and strive for excellence in the great citadel of learning. The new intakes took an oath which was led by the Dean of each faculty. The Vice Chancellor also cautioned the students to abstain from negative behaviour and oppose cultism in all its forms.

CAMPUS TRANSIT CRISIS:
After many days of complaints from the students over transportation difficulties on campus, the Transport Management Commission (TMC) issued an official statement addressing the situation on 12 January. According to the release, the TMC said they are currently in collaboration with the Great Ife Student Union and the University Administration to resolve the current issues, ensuring safer and more reliable means of transportation.
The Students’ Union explained that the reason for the scarcity in buses was due to the school management, through CATREC, reduced the number of town-gboro buses that operate on campus to 150 because of the system that is about to be implemented which includes the 80 vehicles promised by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that have been delivered to the school management.
The major problem lies with the town-gboro drivers who, from the realisation that a new system is coming, decided to sabotage transportation on campus by not implementing the full 150 approved buses.
