Tears, remembrance as Candle light procession is conducted for Ifelaw graduate, Joy

Sunday evening saw the Candle light procession for one of OAU’s bright minds, Queen Ananwureyi Ohine Joy who sadly passed away on August 14 2021. She was a graduate of the Faculty of Law, OAU and was a member of the Association of Campus Journalists ( ACJ) while on campus.

The procession which was organized by the Ajayi Oluwafemi ( Efem Castro) led Students’ Union Electoral Commission proceeded from SUB to Akintola, then to Faj and Moremi before moving to Law, and then back to the SUB.

While paying Joy her last homage, her roommate, Fadeelat said, "we were roommates, we stayed on the same floor for four good sessions, and we were roommates twice, I don't know what to say honestly because everything reminds me of Joy. Even when Joy was going through a lot of things, she will still put a smile on her face, she will still come to my bed saying 'Fadeelat what is wrong with you'. In first semester, Part 5, Joy had an attack that she was in coma for days and this made her miss exam and she was unable to go to Law school with her mates.”

“But then Joy will tell me she wants them to mark her paper, she wants to do this, she wants to do that, she wants to be a Barrister, even if she is not a Barrister, she wants to write a book but she didn't live to fulfill all that. Every session, they change your room and you meet another set of people but when I met Joy as my roommate again, I was happy. Joy is someone that is selfless, she will be like Fadeelat have you eaten, Fadeelat have you cooked, I believe she is an angel. Nobody is perfect, we had our times that I will just tell her Joy please leave me alone, but she is close to perfection, she is one roommate I will never forget. The last time we met was at Oshogbo because we both live at Oshogbo and she was telling me she wants to do her Masters, Joy wanted to pursue her masters despite not being to law school but then it is well, may her soul rest in peace”, Fadeelat disclosed.

In his farewell speech, the Speaker, Law Students Representative Council, Awosusi Opeyemi said, “Good evening everyone, the death of joy came as a shock to everyone including me. My first contact with her was when I was in Part 1, our coming into the faculty, she was one of the people that accepted us even though we were newvites in the faculty but we had someone who we could always go to at every point of our need, she has gone to rest now with her savior, however, her memory will forever linger in our hearts”.

“She was a very peaceful person, always smiling, loved by all and sundry in the faculty, her transmission to the world beyond is only testament and confirmation that this world and everything in it is ephemeral, it only buttresses how transient life is, everyone of us, one day will surely leave this world, however, the people we have impacted and our legacy, what we are known for will continue to remininsce in the heart of everybody. On behalf of the Executive council and LSS as a whole, I will like to condole with her family and it’s our prayer that Almighty God accept her gentle soul into Paradise. Thank you very much, he noted and prayed.

Another student who knows her also praised her saying, “She is a very wonderful senior colleague, the first time I spoke to her, she was so calm, receptive. Anytime you see her like you will see this joy, she is always smiling, easy to approach, I don't know, its painful honestly, I just pray that God comforts her family, I pray she rests in perfect peace and I pray that one day, at the end of our lives, we see each other again and laugh at last”.
