Excerpts from DSNA's Coverage of IRSA's Emergency Joint Sitting of August 4,2021

The Students Representative Council of the Department of International relations called an emergency Joint sitting of the SRC and Executives. DSNA was there to give you coverage of the proceedings.

The sitting started at 3:10pm and minutes of the last sitting was read. The Clerk was however fined for improper documentation of the last sitting. 

Motion for start of sitting was moved by Hon Wunmi of Part 3 constituency, Hon Nyakpo Mercy of Part 3 constituency who is also the Deputy Speaker seconds the motion and the sitting began. The Financial Secretary took the ground to read the financial report/ budget. Her report was however faulted and she was warned and asked to prepare a much more presentable and official report when next.


Subsequently, the President was questioned on the spending from his office including the group picture taken by the excos, the Excos were eventually ordered to refund the sum of #2400 (excos group picture) to the department. The President was able to clear all financial activities from his office.

Furthermore, the General Secretary also took the ground to defend his spendings, he was questioned on a misplaced marker and was ordered to remit the sum of #100 for the marker and another sum of #250 in which he has been in custody of, he is to remit the sum of #350 to the association. The VP was also questioned and she clears all activities from her office likewise the Director of Sports.

After deliberations,the budget was not ratified due to improper presentation of document. 

After excos were cleared, the SRC acknowledges receipt of a letter from the Director of Socials as regards a proposed Mountaineering event for mainly Part 1 students, the SRC however didn't immediately ratify the proposal on the grounds that the budget has not been ratified and so the activity can't go on as proposed.

Hon Debin of the Part 4 consituency questions the reason Part 1 constituency can't be entitled to a befitting picnic in place of a Mountaineering citing the department's balance. The Treasurer however asks the sitting for time so he could bring a much more detailed document since the current document wasn't ratified.

The President tries to clarify the issue of the balance brought forward from the previous administration saying the Association has not been able to access the entire balance brought forward from the previous administration. However, the Financial Secretary, under the heat of the moment (criticism) produced a document to defend herself but her document was in contrast to what the President had said. After so much back and forth, the issue of the balance brought forward from previous administration was identified and the Financial Secretary was charged to bring forward a corrected budget within a stipulated timeframe.

Moreover, everyone in the sitting unanimously agrees on having the mountaineering go as proposed, the budget and proposed date for the mountaineering were also ratified, the event will hold on August 7th.

The Director of Socials also took the floor to explain his activities including having MCs for the mountaineering event, he also gave account of the department's jersey sales.
He was charged to remit the profit from the jersey sales in his custody to the association.

The General Secretary discloses that he needs Names, matric numbers, phone numbers and addresses of students in the department for renewal of the association.


Hon Pelumi of part 2 constituency moved motion of adjournment, Hon Mofe of Part 3 constituency seconded it and the Speaker adjourned the sitting.
