 Grenada is a major producer of spices, particularly nutmeg, which is one of the country's major exports. Grenada supplies nearly 40% of the worlds annual crop of nutmeg along with other spices like cinnamon, ginger, cloves, allspice, bay leaves and turmeric.


 The importance of nutmeg to the country is such that it appears on the national flag, symbolizing Grenada's status as the Isle of spice

 Before the name Grenada, it was first known as "La Concepcion" in 1948, a year after it was changed to Granada, when the French arrived the territory, it changed to "Le Grenade", and finally when the British took over, it was renamed Grenada pronounced as Gre-ney-da
