Lady raped in a RCCG Parish in Benin

Case has sparked outage on social media

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has strongly condemned the gruesome murder of one of its members, Miss Vera Uwa Omozuwa, in one of the church parishes in Benin, the Edo State capital.

The unfortunate incident was said to have started with rape, which led to the death of Miss Omozuwa, a 100-level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN).

She was said to be reading inside the church when she was attacked by unknown assailants who raped her and bludgeoned her with a fire extinguisher, leading to her death three days later.

“The attention of the leadership of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has been drawn to the condemnable incident,” the church said Monday in a statement through its official website www.rrcg.org.

RCCG assured that the church “is consulting appropriate authorities to ensure that an extensive investigation is carried out in line with the position already expressed by the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, and the culprit(s) face the full weight of the law and justice is done regardless of who is involved.”

News Express reports that outraged Nigerians have demanded justice for Uwa and another victim, Tina, a 16-year-old who was brutally murdered by a police officer recently in Lagos.
