POPULAR READING VENUES OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS' STUDENTS DURING EXAMS

 BY LAWAL SHEREEF

The world is currently in the middle of a ravaging pandemic which has resulted in the death of thousands and in the shutting down of economies.
Schools including higher institutions haven't been left out as they have been on shutdown world wide in a bid  to curb the virus, Obafemi Awolowo University no doubt has also been affected by the pandemic, the school has been on shutdown, academic activities suspended and and students urged to return home since 19th of march, earlier this year.
It has however been observed that if covid-19  hadn't happened, OAU students especially International relations students should be starting their exams this week. In light of this discovery, we have compiled a list of popular reading venues amongst students of the department to churn out some reminisce ,we hope to awaken something in you;

 The IRSA embassy

Located within the Faculty of Administration's main building, the International Relations Students Association's Embassy is actually the secretariat of the student body which borrowed its name from the prospective place of work of several of its members.
Students of the department of International relations would do every important educational stuff in their embassy and daily or even over night readings in the embassy aren't left out.
The department's students take to their embassy once examinations starts in order to get vital materials and PDFs from previous sets. Students who have read at the embassy have had beautiful testimonies to tell as they believed they easily understood their notes amidst the musics, games and sleeps of other fellow readers at the embassy.

HOL

The Hezekiah Oluwasanmi Library, the school's library is a popular reading destination amongst students of the institution and it no doubt welcomes IR students into its facilities. The department's students both past and present have made use of the library and it's books  to the extent that the library has been struggling to keep up with their demands.
It's no strange event visiting the library to borrow some IR related books and being told to return at a later date because the particular book you wanted has been ordered by another person or even missing.
The library however has this reputation of easily putting eager readers to sleep, nevertheless it has been part of the success stories of several IR students.

 Admin extension LTs

Admin extension is actually an extended building of  the Faculty of Administration and it houses the Admin extension lecture theatres.
These lecture theatres are usually filled up with students irrespective of department or faculty probably because of its close proximity to the halls of residences.IR students are however prominent readers at the lecture theatres, hardly a day goes by without an IR student reading in the premises.
The lecture theatres are however notoriously popular for housing armies of skirt and blouses(if you know, you know) although it arguably has the fastest fans on campus.

AUD I &II

Located within the enclaves of the Faculty of Arts,AUD I &II are lecture theatres actually belonging to the Faculty but have turned out to be popular reading destinations for IR students as students of the department sometimes outnumber other students in the lecture theatres.
With their vintage looks and iconic appearances, the sister lecture theatres have gotten their fair share of daily hustle bustle of OAU's lecture weeks, they are however no strangers to the solemn atmosphere created by students when its examination time.
Several IR students who are quite familiar with their identical appearances after semesters of lectures in their premises are usually found engrossed in their books at these venues, they however contain large amounts of mosquitoes despite their boastful beautiful interiors.

HashTag Campus: OAU students receive lectures in darkness and heat ...

The First Bank Lecture Theatre donated by the banking giants,First bank plc to the department of Economics has a vast classroom which can sit about 750 students at once and several other rooms ensuite, the lecture theatre has accomodated several IR students for lectures, private readings and even tutorials.

The lecture theatre which plays host to regular religious activities, conferences, meetings e.t.c still serves several International relations students who have found it's classroom to be their ideal reading location. Nevertheless, the lecture theatre has a worrisome amount of mosquitoes and skirt and blouses and it sometimes cast a solitary look which many don't like but we shouldn't forget so easily it's spaciousness and powerful bulbs.

Religious grounds

Religious activities return to OAU centre

This might sound weird but a large amount of the University's students are actually religious and do read in their religious places.
From the faithful Muslim adherents who spot beards and jump trousers to the vibrant Christian payer warriors and tongue speakers, the University plays host to a variety of students who believe they understand their books better at their churches, mosques and even mountain tops as Manchester United's Angel Gomes believes SCOAN's T.B Joshua will heal his injuries forever.
The department of International relations also has a sizeable amount of religious faithfuls[not all are faithfuls<|>] who take to their respective places of worship to read and they have had stellar testimonies to give.

HOSTELS

We have touched on several lecture theatres where IR students do read but we wont do justice to this publication if we do not mention hostel beds, which is perhaps the most popular reading location of most students.
From the male fresher hostel of Angola to the female Moremi hostel and to the sprawling hostels off-campus,students have one time or the other chosen to read on their beds, this might later prove disastrous though, depending on how concentration and the urge to sleep is managed, nevertheless few students can boast of never reading on their beds.It comes with another degree of seriousness,if you know, you know.

From the ODLTs to the HSLTs,from white house to the BOOs,from Local government to Agric or even Post graduate and from town,Lagere,Mayfair to Maintenance,Damico and Faj,International relations students have traversed the entirety of OAU and Ife in their search for knowledge and they should be acknowledged for this(you can as well issue them a D'or in search for knowledge),Ifediplomats should be respected anywhere they go.

I hope I stirred something in you and believe you can relate with some of the pictures painted, share the venues you think should be listed and those to be removed in our comment section, you can also share some of your experiences at these lecture theatres so as what you have encountered in your quest to shenk OAU,we await your replies.
