ABDISALAM ABDI ALI

Abdisalam Abdi Ali is a Somali politician and diplomat who currently serves as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia. He was appointed to the position in May, 2025. He studied Healthcare Administration with a minor Business Management and Administration at the University of Toledo. He also completed an executive education program in Global Business and Politics at the Yale School of Management.
He is a member of the 11th Federal Parliament of Somalia, he served on the Parliamentary Committee for Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries. He is the Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing. He has been focusing on strengthening Somalia's diplomatic relations, expanding cooperation with African and international partners, supporting regional peace and security initiatives and enhancing Somalia's position in international organizations. He represented Somalia at African Union summits in Addis Ababa, at high-level discussions on African representation at United Nations Security Council and many more.
During his tenure as an ambassador and diplomat, Somalia secured a seat on the African Union Peace and Security Council. Also, Somalia joined the African Peer Review Mechanism as its 45th member state. Also, several diplomatic passport visa-waiver agreements were signed with different countries. Apart from diplomacy, he has been involved in humanitarian efforts.
Abdisalam Abdi is considered part of a newer generation of Somali leaders combining international education, business experience and government service.
