In mid-December 2025, the international community finds itself grappling with a period of intense transition and instability. From the fragile aftermath of regime changes in the Middle East to constitutional crises in East Asia and the worsening effects of climate change in South Asia, the past week has underscored the volatile state of global security and humanitarian welfare. While the end of the long-standing dictatorship initially signaled a new era, the country is currently paralyzed by a reconstruction crisis. Over a million refugees have returned to a land where infrastructure is non-existent and localized skirmishes persist. The fragility of this transition was highlighted this week by an ISIS ambush that claimed the lives of U.S. personnel, proving that extremist remnants still threaten the nation's path to peace. Simultaneously,...

Book Review

On today’s book review, we'll be reflecting on the book,  Why You Act the Way You Do by Tim LaHaye. It is a book that explains the reasons behind human behavior and how personality differ in a clear and practical way. The book focuses on helping readers understand themselves and others by examining temperament rather than judging actions as simply good or bad. LaHaye introduces four basic temperament types: sanguine, choleric, melancholic, and phlegmatic. He explains that everyone possesses a mixture of these traits, with one or two usually dominating. Through this framework, the author shows how these temperament shapes communication styles, emotional reactions, leadership abilities, and relationships. The good thing is, his ideas are presented in simple language which makes the book quite accessible to a wide audience. A major lesson of the book is its emphasis on self-awareness and responsibility. LaHaye encourages readers to recognize both their strengths and weakn...

Afghanistan, officially known as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, is a landlocked country located in South-Central Asia and occupies a strategic position linking Central Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East. This location has made Afghanistan historically important in international politics, however, it has also exposed the country to repeated foreign invasions and prolonged instability. Historically, Afghanistan served as a small neutral state between rival powers during the nineteenth century, especially between British India and Tsarist Russia. In the modern era, the country has experienced continuous conflict, beginning with the Soviet invasion in 1979, followed by civil war, the rise of the Taliban in the 1990s, and the United States led intervention in 2001 after the September 11 attacks. The withdrawal of foreign forces in 2021 and the return of the Taliban to power marked another major turning point in Afghanistan’s political history. Politically,Afghanistan is ...

EDITORIAL: West Africa’s Coup Trend Is a Warning We Must Not Ignore

West Africa’s Coup Trend Is a Warning We Must Not Ignore West Africa is slipping into a worrying cycle. In the last four years alone, the region has recorded over seven coups and attempted coups, the highest concentration anywhere in the world. From Mali and Burkina Faso to Niger, and now the strange, staged political drama - “coup”, in Guinea Bissau. The pattern is unmistakable: democratic progress is under real threat. Guinea Bissau’s episode is particularly troubling. A president announcing his own “overthrow” while freely speaking to the media is not a genuine coup; it is political theatre designed to interrupt an election. When leaders toy with democracy this openly, the damage goes beyond politics, it erodes public trust and invites instability. Nigeria’s recent scare in October 2025 adds to the tension. Reports that 16 military officers were detained over an alleged plot immediately stirred national anxiety. Even though the military denied an active coup attempt, the reaction sh...
