' there is no difference between the the sighted and the blind, one just has the eye. So, any thing you are feeling, I also feel the same too, don't look at me like an Alien or someone from another world.'

Hello Everyone!  It's World Disabilities Day!!! And so I welcome you all to an exclusive interview with our very guest πŸ˜€ Dabiri Samuel Oluwasegun .Join me as we have an interesting moment and as we celebrate World Disabilities Day!

Let The Interview Begin!

DSNA: Hello My Very Guest on today's interview.
How are you doing?

Samuel: I am doing great! Thank you .

DSNA: Yeah that's good to hear and you are welcome to this interview session πŸ˜€
Would you please give a brief introduction of yourself?

Samuel: Little introduction about my self! I am Dabiri Samuel Oluwasegun, from a family of ten children, a native of Alimosho local Government in Lagos state . I'm in my 30s. When I  had my sight, I went to Our Saviour primary school then when the sight went off, I went to Pacelli School for the blind in Lagos where I started from the scratch and finished. From there, I proceeded to Ogun State, Yewa College situated at Ilaro .

DSNA: Wow! Judging from this, I can deduce that you have certain experiences you will like to share with us from your primary school days to your secondary school days, isn't it Samuel?

Samuel: Yes, a lot of experiences but the thing is where should I start from because the list is numerous. Is it from the studying of Braille which was so strange to me, or how my step mother almost stopped me from not proceeding to secondary school, or the student who were sighted bullied me because I couldn’t see.

DSNA: This must have been so challenging but amidst all you are here in Obafemi Awolowo University studying a degree course, so it's a win, isn't it? πŸ˜ƒ

Samuel: Yeah, it is.

DSNA: Now Samuel you mentioned the study of Braille, would you care to give an insight on this?

Samuel: Okay! Braille is a style of writing by the usually impaired ones i.e the blind people. And one thing about is that if you are not trained on how to use it, you can't know it. The Origin of Braille started in the 19th century, it was coined from a name, Louis Braille, who got blind at the age of three when playing with her father's shoe making tools. She got enrolled in a special school where she was taught by a soldier named Charles Barbier, a soldier who invented it so that soldiers could use it to communicate and to make their strategies unknown to the enemies. It is also called Night reading. .

DSNA: Wow, I am intrigued even soldiers get to use them. Let's talk about today, a day of celebration of People With Disabilities. I personally celebrate you Samuel for standing all strong and all and yeah this triggers my next question. How has this new way of life been? And would you like to share your thoughts on it?

Samuel: There are so many challenges I faced but I  feel the world is not ready to listen to the the challenges you face, but the world is waiting for that one thing you do to become successful. Why I am saying this is  because no matter what you might have faced in life, many people have passed through the same and they became successful.

DSNA: Speaking of challenges, Samuel would you like to highlight certain challenges you must have faced and possibly issues you perhaps want the world to be aware of?

Samuel: Well! I feel that life in general is a challenge, if any one doesn’t want to face the Challenges  of life, I think the person  should book a quick flight ticket to the grave. So, any situation can come to any body at any time.  The only thing you should do is to find positivity from that challenge.

Aura of royalty

DSNA: Yeah nevertheless I am glad you are standing strong. So let's have an ice breaker question.
What do you do in your leisure time, are they certain sports, games you like or engage in?

Samuel: Yes I love sprint a lot, I mean shot distance race and I also do weightlifting but my best sport is swimming, I can swim very well.

DSNA: Really! I am so glad you get to enjoy  your leisure time. You even get to swim, trust me you are doing well.πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜…
I am sure a lot of our readers will be so amazed.

Samuel: Going back to the question asked on the issue of challenge, looking at it in another dimension, the greatest challenge any disabled person will face in life is stigmatization because the society is not aware of so many things.

Talking of the stigmatization, it is everywhere  but as for we the disabled ones, I think we face it in every aspect of life. Take for instance, religious, education, social life, like one's leisure time, maritally, in your house and in the working place and even the general view of people. Let's give one example: some people feel if they hold my hand, or eat my food, they will become blind. Another one is that they believe any person who is blind is subjected to be a beggar. Or no lady would want to marry a blind dude like us. Even if she agrees to do so, friends and family would disagree. I can go on and on.

DSNA: Yeah, yeah
Stigmatization is a sensitive one and that is why at DSNA we support the ideal of having an interview to show our solidarity and to celebrate people with disabilities.

DSNA: So Samuel are there certain actions you feel the OAU community should do in respect to showing more solidarity to special people like you?

Samuel: I think we have started already. But we can do more. We are trying to work with the department and I have also spoken with the SUB Student Union board about this and we are also trying to make this sensitization bigger than this by reaching to the lecturers and the school authority but it is a gradual process.

DSNA: Okay
It's definitely a work in progress and I believe this is going to be an eye opener for people to be much more educated about the plights of PWDs.

So we are getting to the very end of this interview but before then; Are they any words you would like to say? Your favorite quote, and yes your social media handles.

Samuel: What I have to say is this; there is no difference between the the sighted and the blind, one just has the eye. So, any thing you are feeling, I also feel the same too, don't look at me like an Alien or someone from another world. For my advice to people, take every challenge that comes your way to be an achiever and do not be a liability to people. Try every of your possible best, and you would surely get there. And always help any disabled when the need arises, ask for his or her consent. My best quote,  we recite this  quote in my secondary school and there is a line I love. And the line goes like this, "success is not by accident, failure is not a sudden disaster."

My social media handles are;
