YOUR HEART AND YOU

Ever seen someone who is strong and healthy collapse and die all of a sudden and yet you don't know the cause?
Read to find out the possibility of the death and also how to prevent a heart attack from happening.

Although heart attack can be very deadly, all over the world, thousands of people still survive it every year. Taking a quick action when you suspect a heart attack is coming on can give you a better chance of survival.
You might then ask, how do i suspect when its happening, because lot of people don't notice the signs until its too late.
The following therefore are the signs of a heart attack:
Discomfort in the chest, most especially the center and this can last for more than a few minutes and it comes and go. This discomfort may feel like heaviness, fullness, pain or squeezing.
Discomfort in the upper parts of the upper such as the stomach, neck, jaw, arms, or back are another symptoms of a heart attack.
Shortness of breath which may come with or without chest discomfort.
Unusual sensations such as nausea, a cold sweat, vomiting, dizziness, or lightheadedness. Women are more prone to experience these kinds of symptoms.

Now that you have known the signs of a heart attack, the next question is that how one can one go about it to survive it?.
Firstly, have someone call an ambulance if others are around, they should stay with you until it arrives.
Instruct someone nearby to find the closest defibrillator if you are still conscious at the start of your heart attack when you are in a public place.
Secondly, take aspirinTake a normal dose of aspirin (325 milligrams) if you have one on hand when still conscious. Aspirin works by slowing down the blood's ability to clot. How it works during a heart attack is that, the aspirin when taken, slows blood clotting and also minimizes the size of the blood clots that might have developed.

Next question is that what about for most of us that stay alone?
If you are alone and notice any of the above symptoms of heart attack in your body, call an ambulance, or a friend, or a family member right away. Take aspirin if you have it on hand. When that is done, unlock your front door and lie down near it. This is to make it easier for whosoever you have call find you.

Is there a fast way to stop a heart attack?
Unfortunately, the answer is no, there is not a fast way to stop a heart attack without seeking emergency medical treatment at a hospital. Although, you may find many "fast" heart attack treatments on the internet, however, these "fast" treatments are not effective and could cause more harm than good by delaying emergency medical treatment.

How do i decrease risk factors associated with a heart attack?
Stop smoking and also minimize your exposure to secondhand smoke.
Your high blood cholesterol and  high blood pressure should be regulated and brought under control by modifying  your diet, losing weight, taking medication, or doing a combination of these things.
   Stay physically active daily.
Control your weight if you are overweight or obese.
If you have diabetes, take  care by sticking to your treatment plan and managing your blood sugar level.
Relieve stress in your life by practicing relaxation techniques like deep breathing or yoga, or try therapy.
Your alcohol consumption intake should be reduced. Always eat a healthy and balanced diet, rich in a variety of vitamins and minerals.

Note: a consistent heart attack weakens the heart and if not treated can lead to death.
