TRANSPORTATION
Despite a 72-hour lecture boycott earlier this month, the transportation crisis remains unresolved. Students continue to report long queues and delays due to the new system limiting intra-campus travel to the 80 CNG-powered buses and tricycles recently donated by the First Lady.
*The Union, led by President Adelani David , further discussions between union leaders and the university's Public Relations Officer occurred through Monday, April 20, to monitor the transport situation
* protest is been held by the students. The recent protest has been defined to be peaceful and organized . Unlike past unrest that may have led to property damage or clashes, these demonstrations focused on dialogue and visible, non-violent presence to demand better student welfare.
Academic and Community News
* The university community is mourning Adewole Oreoluwa Emmanuel, a 400-level medical student who died suddenly on April 22 after complaining of chest pain during a clinical viva examination.
* Kosi was reportedly abducted on Saturday, April 18, 2026, when the vehicle he was traveling in was intercepted by kidnappers.The kidnappers initially demande ₦50 million ransom for his release. there is no official confirmation yet of Kosi's release.
* Peter Obi did not eventually speak at OAU because his scheduled event was cancelled at the last minute by the university authorities. He was originally invited to be the keynote speaker at the International Leadership Conference 2026, which was supposed to take place at Oduduwa Hall on Saturday morning, April 25, 2026.
* Student Wole Ogidanwas celebrated this week as the Champion and Third Best Speaker at the All-Nigeria Universities Debating Championships (ANUDC 2026).
Hostel Eviction Order
Management recently ordered students to vacate their halls of residence to allow for extensive renovations that have been planned since last session. Following a meeting to address student concerns, the Union reached an agreement that ensures no student is left stranded. The management agreed to provide alternative accommodation for those affected, moving them to other available spaces within the university’s residential system.
New University Portal
Management has officially launched a new portal (eportal2.oauife.edu.ng) to improve digital services like course registration and fee payments.
